The Coca-Cola Company’s edging into a trending market, considering the possibility of producing CBD-infused drinks, according to a press release.
It could be declining soft-drink sales (per Reuters) and booming interest in health and wellness that’s causing the soda manufacturer to rethink its direction and toy with the idea of adding all-natural cannabidiol to their drinks.

To be clear, cannabidiol is the medicinal component of marijuana. No, it won’t get you high; but it can relieve pain, reduce anxiety, ease inflammation, and even help you get a better night’s sleep.
Coca-Cola released a statement on Sep. 17 that read:
“We have no interest in marijuana or cannabis. Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world. The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”
Aurora Cannabis Inc.,—the Canadian company currently in talks to team up with Coca-Cola—has also expressed interest in creating CBD-infused beverages and expanding their market, Bloomberg reports. After the statement was made by Coca-Cola on Monday, Aurora’s stock jumped 23% in New York.
Other beverage companies, like Corona and Lagunitas Brewing have already hopped on the trend and have begun to invest in cannabis-infused beverages and products, per Business Insider, so it might not be long ’til we see CBD-infused beverages sooner rather than later.
